Now I only have 14 days left of my Ableton live trial, things have been going well and I am really getting the hang of it. I have decided to share with you one of my songs. Click on the link below to listen to it, it will open in a new window and plays in Quicktime plugin. It is a work in progress so ends suddenly. I know it won’t be a chart topper but at least you can see what I have acheived so far. The song includes a good mix of samples, midi instruments and effects. Let me know what you think, good or bad. Whether your new to digital music or not I’m sure there’s a some jargon in here that you’ve either never heard of or always wondered what it meant. Launchpad Controller for Ableton software I only have 23 days left on my trial of Ableton Live 8 The Novation Launchpad, is definately the way forward ( IMO ) for DJ’s and music producing, but also just to have at home to compliment the Ableton software. I’d like to try and explain how to use it but having not used one yet perhaps it’s best that you check out the demo on Youtube. Click on the image (top left) to watch. I am like a kid in a toy shop here, this is a really sexy looking piece of kit. I have downloaded the 30 trial of their Ableton live 8 and have been playing around with it’s many features. I remember this feeling of being in at the deep end when I used to have Cubasis, but in no time at all I started to create music with it. This really is a professional piece of software with limitless possibilities to create computer music. There’s a massive pool of sound samples to use with thousands of recorded sound samples and midi beats to chose from. If you are completely new to the sequencer world you can try the intro package, or for the seasoned midi music maker perhaps you’d prefer to plunge the depths of the complete Ableton suite which has it all. Either way I recommend you at least take a look at their site – Warning, you will need to allocate a few days for this The price reflects the quality and of this fantastic program and I’m sure that if you’re a serious professional music producer or DJ then you have either already purchased it or intend to. ( do let me know if I have introduced Ableton to you ) After a little searching around I found this program for around £249 on Amazon. If you are a novice but are interested in something very similar then try SonicPro it’s a tenth of the price but will still get those creative juices flowing.
Here’s a nice little tool that I found it converts your Midi files to MP3 or WAV format, it only does a single file at a time but it’s still a nifty gadget to have access to, and best of all it’s FREE and there’s nothing to download it does it through your browser. The latest addition from Activision – the Guitar Hero guys, the new DJ Hero for xbox and PS3 has hit the stores, the big kid in me wants to rush out and buy it but rap really isn’t my thing. I am going to search for some reviews on this but somehow I don’t think it will grab peoples attention quite the same as GH.

, I’m having so much fun with this software. It’s keeping me up very late at night. I am seriously considering buying Ableton Live, even if I’ll never become a performing DJ this thing is the nuts. And to add to the attraction Ableton have collaborated with Akai to produce this simple looking but very powerful controller.
